This work is an examination of my father’s aging process. These images are a graphic portrayal of the mental and physical deterioration that often accompanies the end of life. The series forces viewers to confront aspects of the aging process that are not often discussed. The preferred depiction of old age is as a time of active leisure. Seniors are typically portrayed as healthy and independent. The debilitating effect of dementia and loss of control over one’s body is often hidden. The impact on the caregiver is also minimized.
